September Sunset is my first piece for concert band, written in memory of my first two cats, Cella and Toffee, both deceased. Toffee’s birthday was last September, the same month during which Cella was put to rest. This piece evokes images of a later summer/early fall sunset, as one day draws to a close, but another is around the corner. My feline girls’ lives came to a close, but they have become part of the larger universe, still present, though not visible.
