La Danse de Puck for flute quintet

$9.00

Puck is a dwarf-like figure from the world of Nordic mythology that also appears in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

Claude Debussy’s Puck is a fleet-footed and capricious creature, having qualities that are easily portrayed by flutes! The rhythmic patterns moodily alternate between playful hurrying and sudden lingering, and the trenchant minor seconds in the accompaniment reveal his roguish intentions flashing forth behind the mask of gallant melodies. The lower instruments repeatedly exhort him to seriousness, but he won’t be deterred, and finally – with a fast run – he disappears like a ghost into the airy heights of invisibility.

This quintet arrangement is quite challenging to play, but a most delightful task for a good flute ensemble!
