Wings – Of Planes and Lives Up High for for flute octet

The composer’s poem “Wings” should be recited prior to performance, to set the mood. The piece should be played with a sense of wonder, while at the same time nostalgia, as we imagine watching planes travel up high from one side of the sky to the other. Melodic and accompanying lines should share in musically describing the technical, almost magical feat that is air travel.
