Johannes Brahms‘ Waltz No. 15 shows his lighter, most engaging side. It is combined here with a soulfully cheerful excerpt from an otherwise stormy Capriccio.
A variation of the Waltz, continuing with the rolling, rollicking rhythm of triplets bookends it. All the parts, from the piccolo to the bass flute, get a bit of the spotlight. The only technical hurdles are keeping accurate rhythms where triplets play against couplets and as the meter changes from 3 to 2 beats and back again.
