Sights of Saint Augustine for clarinet and string quintet
$10.00
Saint Augustine, Florida is represented here by variations of a 16th century baroque Spanish Folia, which was a very popular form when the Spanish colony was founded in 1565. It begins with alternating 6/8 and 3/4 measures, with each instrument taking its turn. These variations represent the diverse sights of the city, such as the Spanish Quarter, Bridge of Lions, Fountain of Youth, Cathedral Basilica, City Gate, and Castillo de San Marcos. Some of these variations are completely original. Others are inspired by the works of other composers who have used the Folia form: Lully, Corelli, Marais, Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Handel, Bach, Salieri, Purcell, Liszt, Beethoven, and Rachmaninov.
