This is the second of two brilliant Arabesques by French impressionist Claude Debussy Debussy was the master of musical impressionism. Like the colors in a Monet painting, his harmonies are sometimes unexpected by classical standards, dissolving into perfect shards of light. His “Reverie” is a lovely contemplative piece that demonstrates his talent at his best. Excellent intonation is required for the sometimes widely spaced chordal harmonies. Third register notes must be controlled as indicated by the dynamic markings, as the melody is sometimes in the lower flutes. This is an excellent example of flute tonalities blending for a supremely satisfying effect.
