In the summer of 1881, at the age of 70, Liszt composed this “Forgotten Waltz”. It is somewhat reminiscent of the several appealing waltzes of his earlier years. In it, he by no means renounces virtuosity and elegance, but rather infuses these characteristics with nostalgia and irony by embedding typical melodic and rhythmic elements of salon waltzes into innovative and harmonically alienating progressions. This flute ensemble arrangement is based on the original piano score as well as Jeno Hubay’s version for violin and piano.
