This frivolous quartet has a depth of purpose underlying superficially lighthearted themes. It is supposedly depicting lawn gnomes who play pranks after dark, as is their calling in life. As the night progresses, initial playfulness yields to more serious bravado and eventual mystical enchantment. Ultimately, approaching dawn forces the gnomes into a frantic completion of their activities before they once again strike their rigid daytime poses.
