Felix Mendelssohn had five children, all but one growing to adulthood. So he had reason to compose a lullaby. This one is an exuberantly sweet little song in a fast waltz tempo that would unlikely put any babies to sleep, but would be great fun to dance around the room with babe in arms. It’s a delightful little transition or ending piece for a program. The only performance challenges will be to keep it light throughout.
