How Great Our Joy for flute sextet

$10.00

The origin of the text for “How Great Our Joy” is not known, but it may date back to as early as 1500. The tune was modernized in 1623 Germany and given an echo setting, most likely for a Christmas play in which the shepherds’ singing was followed by an off-stage echo. This arrangement for flute ensemble features unexpected syncopation and fluid running eighth notes that provide a nice flow to the echo theme.

“While by the sheep we watched at night, Glad tidings brought an angel bright.
How great our Joy! repeat Joy, joy, joy! repeat Praise we the Lord in heaven on high!” repeat
