Barcarolle, Op 44 for flute nonet
Lyadov’s largest published body of work is for the piano, as a succession of tiny preludes, mazurkas, waltzes, and other typical salon pieces. Though small in scale, each piece is immaculately finished. His musical talent creates an elegant sound-world which is both strangely fascinating and genuinely moving. This Barcarolle, as arranged for 9 flutists (one doubling on piccolo), is perhaps one of his finest jewels.
