Per Magnus Bystrom holds a Bachelor of Music and Music Education degree from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm where he studied flute with Bengt Christiansson, Stig Bengtson and Lennart Ehrenlood, composition and counterpoint with Svante Widén, and piano with Håkan Sund and Carl-Axel Dominique.
Per Magnus has worked as a musician in many chamber music projects as well as a music director and arranger for musicals and theatre shows in the Stockholm area. His flute playing has been heard in numerous movies and TV series through his longtime collaboration with movie music composer Elia David Cmiral and on the composers’ miraculous Ultima Thule Suite album. As a pianist/keyboardist/flutist and composer he has been heard playing jazz fusion at jazz clubs and festivals around Scandinavia with the George “Jojje” Wadenius band through the nineties as well as on Jojje’s albums of songs for children (among others “Zoppa” that won the Swedish grammy awards prize for best music for children album of the year in 1999).
He has more recently gained familiarity with the repertoire for flute choir as a member of the “Mälardalens Flöjtensemble” (lake Mälaren valley flute ensemble) playing alto flute and contrabass flute. This constellation is also the vehicle for trying out his many arrangements for this very rare but wonderful ensemble form.
