Two Scenes from The Love for Three Oranges, Op 33 for flute octet

$16.00

The Love for Three Oranges solidified Prokofiev’s reputation in the West in the 1920’s, both this and the satirical tale of Lieutenant Kije being his most popular works. One of the flutes in this arrangement doubles on piccolo. Including a contrabass flute in performance adds a firing dimension to the ensemble. Prokofiev’s first visit to the United States in 1918 prompted this composition, which premiered in Chicago in 1921 under his direction. Its first review claimed it exhibited “charming capriciousness.” Five years later it was finally performed in Russia.
