‘Twas in the Moon of Wintertime with Hush My Babe for flute duet and optional percussion

Twas in the Moon of Wintertime was written in the symbols of the Huron Indian language in 1640 and later set to an old French tune by a Jesuit priest. It tells the story of the Nativity and became a significant tribal oral tradition, now a Canadian national treasure. Its companion hymn in this arrangement, Hush, My Babe is based on an Isaac Watts poem. This piece is complete as an alto flute and bass flute duet, but is greatly enhanced by the addition of a rain stick, a finger cymbal, and a tom-tom. One percussionist may rotate between these three instruments.
